1. Off-com
2. BBC
3. Its free no ads but we pay through tax but benefit for the public
4. Convergence
5. Defersification
6. Conglomerate

Question 2 :

Radio one live lounge would fit these requirements by inviting artists that may appeal to there audience of 15 to 29 year old. For example, Stormzy on there radio engaging with the hosts to entertain the audience.

One way Teenage dirtbag and Sk8ter boy create different representations of each other is the teenagers as the one ones in teenage dirtbag were your classical american jocks ect whilst the ones in sk8tr boy were rebellious emos who causes havoc.

the bbc has to be provide a wider range of content then comercial as comercial is free radio dedicated into getting money whilst the bbc is founded by tv licence, therefore making the live lounge a psb radio [benefit of the public] which has to follow there remit of trying to bring a target audience of 15-29 year olds [ they use slang to try and appeal to there younger audience such as 'big up'] they also have to support up incoming young artists such as raye, they have to include live music   [ they had stormzy on as hes a well known artist from mostly fans from that age group]
and they also have to include speeches and advice as teenage life can be daunting for some and as they have life experiences they can help.

by providing  a wider range of content then comercial, the bbc have created a bigger empire then any comercial radio ever will, stabling them into an iconic house hold name in the uk

1. Media Language = mise en scene,editing,sound,camera work,narrative,layout,font,text

2. Industry = thing that produces films/ magazine.

3. Audience = who is reading/watching ur media

4. Representation = age/group of people/gender/stereotypes

5. Context = The background of the text

how are groups of people represented ?

USA HIGH SCHOOL: Jocks,popular girl,loser-group

Jocks: popular, respected, confident, slomo- long shot of jocks students move, misenscene jocks jackets, stereotypes

Loser; misenscene wolly hat layered clothing, props- book, zoom out to emphasis he is alone, shot reverse shot of him walking down the corridor and people calling him a loser

Popular girl; camera - close up on her face, face smiling/happy - slowmo to emphasise her importance

SB Representation:

Group of teens-  Rebellious/nonchalant/reckless/troubled, breaking the law, smashing cars

Avril -  Leader, female respected by boys respected, listend to. low angle shot camera on her. close ups

Q3: explain how and why music videos create representation that are different from one and other. Refer to one example contrasting  representations in two music videos you have studies to support your answer

Representations are created differently in Teenage dirtbag compared to SB. For example, Teenagers in TDB are represented more stereotypically for example the "popular girl.' The Directors deliberately use misenscene to fill in the classic pretty nice girl look, they presented her as a nice always smiling, important [because of the constant slowmos] girl.

This completely contrasts the representations of women in TDB. For example, SB uses misenscene but to completely juxtapose the stereotype of young teenage girls,  they show Avril [the girl] smashing cars, being chased by the police and acting like a complete deviant to society which is more stereotypically suited towards a young teenage male.

Music Industry: Q4

LO: To explore the exam style questions and practice exam techniques for Q4 focusing on media language and representation.

Representation of the Musician:
How are they show or presented?

The artist is presented as a mysterious/classical figure as they use black and white to reinforce the idea of him being mysterious/classical to try to generate a much older audience.

they also use "dark knight"  which 'knight' could indicate maybe a past of bravery/kindness and "dark" could mean he is now corrupted by the rockstar life style changing his moral code earning him the title "dark."

Age is presented by an older male in this magazine which he is shown as quite serious/dangerous person, He is shown in black white which indicates a serious/ classic theme. In the photo he is starting at us quite blankly, maybe indicating when you get older you loose any fear of not expressing yourself/ putting your self out there.

multiculturalism:

This Magazine uses the colour palette which is purple, pink and white which suggests they are defying norms (stereotypes) with a male being masked around quite saturated feminine colours

The text used in this magazine are quite bold which fits perfectly into that quite serious/ cold theme that its creating, so i believe they made the text massive to fit into this theme.

LO: TO EXPLORE THE EXAM STYLE QUESTION FOR MUSIIC MAGAZINE AND VIDEO

Media language : text, images, cover lines, colour, layout

1. Shot types: close/mid shot, 1 person, 46 years old, female, revealing clothes only gloves and gold headset = wealth and power, throne / queen, pop royalty and geek goddess

2. Colour pallet, gold/brown/black/yellow/white , saturated, bright, warm, positive, calm.

3. Ordered layout, organised, formal, 4 cover lines

4. Sans serif, lower case, large, sans serif = modern, clean, lowercase= relaxed/ rebelling no captaining the name,

The media language in the two magazines are used completely differently. Firstly, they are opposite genders, presented in different ways. The woman is presented as powerful, wealthy like a greek goddess whilst also sexualising her at the same times as she is wearing revealing clothes.

In the other magazine, the group of males are also presented as wealthy however not so ever sexualised just smart and formal, this completely juxtaposes the way the woman is presented. Another way is the Layout of the magazines.

The magazine containing the woman is presented quite neatly and organised, linking back and emphasising her power and wealth. The magazine containing the  group of males is ordered like a cluttered mess which contrasts the formal, smart image they represented the males as.

Also the mastheads both share a similar quality as they both use a sans serif font however, the colours used are different. In Shakiras the colour used is yellow, which contrasts the Mojos white. Another difference is the Capitalisation, Mojos is in Full Caps whilst Shakiras is not, they are different in those ways.

In conclusion the media language are used mostly in different ways with hints of similarities, the woman is sexualised but also presented as a goddess, whilst the males are presented as smart but also contrasting itself with the unorganised mess.

28/11/23

The media language is used differently in the two magazine covers, because of the generic convention of the magazine and the audience appeal. The mastheads on the two magazines are clearly different. Mojo uses Uppercase letters, white, san serif type. The use of the Uppercase gives a sense formality and formal as it capitalised the name of the magazine. The use of the white gives quite a dull and boring mood to the cover. However the sans serif contrasts the formal semantic field they have created as it gives a modern informal feel to the magazine. The masthead therefore appeals to the audience by giving and overall youthful and up to date version of music with a quite formal/retro feel.
